When Balance Feels Off, Everything Feels Off
Balance and vestibular issues can affect more than just how you move. They can impact your confidence, your independence, and your ability to go about your day without worry.
You may find yourself avoiding certain movements, feeling unsteady, or even limiting your activity out of fear of falling.
At Summit Physical Therapy, we help identify what’s causing these symptoms and create a plan to help you feel steady, safe, and back in control.

How Balance Works
Your balance depends on three systems working together:
Vision
What you see helps guide your movement and orientation.
Proprioception
This is your body’s awareness of position and movement through your muscles
and joints.
Vestibular System
Located in the inner ear, this system tells your brain how your body is moving through space.
When one or more of these systems is not working properly, it can lead to dizziness, instability, or difficulty with movement.

Dizziness or Vertigo - What's the difference?
BPPV (Positional Vertigo)
This occurs when small crystals in the inner ear become displaced, causing a spinning sensation with certain movements like rolling in bed or looking up.
Dizziness
A feeling of lightheadedness or unsteadiness that may be related to changes in different systems in the body.
Concussion
Vestibular therapy can help improve balance, reduce dizziness and restore visual coordination following head injuries. Concussion therapy involves a combination of vestibular exercises and cervical exercises to improve muscular control and coordination.
